PROFILE SUBNOTES

1 Per NextEra Energy, Inc. 10-K Filings.

2 Please note that the environmental attributes of NextEra Energy's electric generating facilities have been or likely will be sold or transferred to third parties, who are solely entitled to the reporting rights and ownership of the environmental attributes, such as renewable energy credits, emissions reductions, offsets, allowances and the avoided emission of greenhouse gas pollutants.

3 As a result of deconsolidation of NextEra Energy Partners, LP for accounting purposes, prior years data includes only NextEra Energy’s ownership share in NextEra Energy Partners’ projects; 2016 data includes amounts associated with noncontrolling interests related to NextEra Energy Partners’ projects.

4 2017 coal increased as a result of FPL's plan to purchase and phase out the coal-fired Indiantown Cogeneration facility. The plant is expected to take no capacity or energy after year-end 2018 and to be retired in 2020.

5 Solar data includes 75 MW of existing non-incremental thermal solar.

In early 2019, FPL added nearly 300 megawatts of new solar capacity and now operates more than 1,230 MW of solar (as of January 31, 2019).

7 FPL’s 2019 Ten Year Power Plant Site Plan projects that the company will, for the first time in its history, produce more energy from solar than from coal and oil combined in the year 2020.

Environment subnotes

N/A is used to identify metrics that were not tracked in the specified year.

Due to rounding, the sum of NextEra Energy emissions may not equal the total emissions of Florida Power & Light and NextEra Energy Resources.

Emissions

1 Includes direct CO2 emissions data for NextEra Energy owned power plant sites as well as joint ownership sites (data for the joint ownership sites were adjusted to account for the Company's ownership share only).

2 NextEra Energy conducts business under regulatory regimes that require CO2 rather than CO2e reporting, therefore this report is being made consistent with those requirements. Emissions of other greenhouse gases associated with the production of electricity (NO2 and CH4) are a statistically insignificant portion of the numbers reported.

3 Please note that the environmental attributes of NextEra Energy's electric generating facilities have been or likely will be sold or transferred to third parties, who are solely entitled to the reporting rights and ownership of the environmental attributes, such as renewable energy credits, emissions reductions, offsets, allowances and the avoided emission of greenhouse gas pollutants.

4 Rate is based on total emissions divided by total owned net generation.

Water

5 Water metrics reported reflect use for plant operations. Metrics for 2014-2018 differ from previously reported metrics in past sustainability reports. An improved water management accounting system was implemented in 2017 and further improved in 2018 that included refining water use definitions through external benchmarking and more consistently applying them across our fleet. The Company utilizes the World Resources Institute's (WRI) definition for water consumption. According to WRI, water consumption is the portion of water use that is not returned to the original water source after being withdrawn.

Waste

The hazardous waste totals include recycled Universal Wastes which contribute to 90% or more of the total weight.

7 2017 data was based on FPL only and did not include municipal solid waste. 2018 data is based on available waste manifest information for NextEra Energy’s generation and FPL’s power delivery fleet and includes municipal solid waste for Florida-based corporate offices. For our wind fleet, actual waste volume was collected for a quarter of the 139 sites to generate a per site waste volume average to extrapolate across the remainder of the fleet. Under non-hazardous waste, a significant portion of the reused/recycled number includes waste associated with plant demolition activities at Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale and Turkey Point plants.

Significant spills

Significant spills are defined as spills resulting in a notice of violation (NOV) (non-monetary sanction), penalty, or fine. A NOV is a notification that a federal, state or local agency believes the recipient committed one or more regulatory violations and provides instructions to the recipient on how to come into compliance.

Significant environmental violations

9 For purposes of this indicator, significant violations are defined as fines of $100,000 or more.
